Research

A pharmacologically grounded account of attention, built from brain rhythms.

  • Cholinergic modulation of brain oscillations

Using pharmacological crossover designs with donepezil, scopolamine and nicotinic agonists, I examine how cholinergic signalling shapes alpha-band activity, including individual alpha frequency, and how these changes relate to attentional performance.

  • Alpha neurofeedback and ADHD

I develop alpha-band neurofeedback protocols and individualised assessment tools based on intra-individual variability and ex-Gaussian decomposition of reaction times. This work is part of the European COST Action CA24148 (EEG101), in collaboration with the University of Groningen.

  • Cognition and affect after stroke

Within the STROKDEM cohort, I study cognitive and emotional trajectories after stroke, including the neural correlates of post-stroke anxiety and the influence of environmental factors on recovery.

  • Pharmacology of vigilance

I study how wake-promoting and pro-cognitive drugs modulate EEG, event-related potentials and attentional performance when the brain is challenged, for instance by sleep loss.

Methods. EEG acquisition and analysis (spectral parameterisation with specparam/FOOOF, time-frequency analysis with Morlet wavelets, event-related potentials), pharmacological crossover designs, and statistical modelling in R.

Working with me

I am open to new collaborations and welcome enquiries from prospective postdoctoral researchers interested in neuropharmacology, EEG and attention. Please get in touch. I am not recruiting PhD students at the moment.
